Top Ten Books I Want To Re-read

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Books I Want To Re-read:

1. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
I really enjoyed this book when I read it a few years ago and I have told myself that I want to re-read it someday

2. Harry Potter series
I want to re-read the series in order, one after the other(or even within a certain amount of time, such as a month or two). I have never done that. I think I might try to do it in October.

3. She's Come Undone
I've read this 3 or 4 times already but I haven't read it in a few years now. And I LOVED it. It's definitely a top favorite.

4. The Virgin Suicides
Just a beautiful book. Written so well. I want to read it again.

5. The Flowers In The Attic series
I've already read this series close to ten times(seriously). It's one off those books/series I can't stop re-reading.

6. Anna and The French Kiss
The first(and only) time I read this was on my e-reader. I loved it but it wasn't as satisfying as holding the book in my hands. So I want to get a real copy to enjoy.

7. Before I Fall
I LOVED this book. I've been meaning to re-read it for forever.

8.Lolita
I read this when I was about 15. I think I'd get a whole new perspective on it now.

9.Love is a Mix Tape
This broke my heart when I read it four or five years ago. I've been meaning to pick it up again.

10.The Sky Is Everywhere
This book made me sob uncontrollably. It's not like that is an enjoyable thing but it was brilliant and I can't wait to read it again.

What would be on your list?

2011 Book Tag(So far)

This is a tag I saw on youtube from a youtuber called BookRatMisty.
You can find her at the following sites:
http://www.thebookrat.com/
http://www.youtube.com/user/BookRatMisty

So here it is!
1. Book you're an evangelist for
Amy and Roger's Epic Detour-Morgan Matson
Road trip. Romance. Sighs.

Anna and the French Kiss-Stephanie Perkins
Paris. Romance. Sighs.

The Book Thief-Markus Zusak
Beautiful, involving book told from the 'grim reaper/death's perspective about a girl growing up during the Holocaust. AMAZING.

2. Most surprisingly good book
The Kite Runner-Khaled Hosseini

This book surprised me because I didn't like the movie at all. So I really had no interest in this book until I saw a youtube video where the girl pleaded that everyone give it a chance because it was her favorite book. So I gave it a try and it was amazing.

The Art of Racing in the Rain-Garth Stein
This surprised me SO much. I didn't expect to like it, let alone fall madly in love with it. It made me laugh and also made me want to curl into a ball and cry.

3. Biggest disappointment so far
I've read a lot of books so far. And there have been A LOT of sucky ones! Such as:

Red Riding Hood-Sarah Blakely-Cartwright.
It didn't even have an ending! It said to check a website after the movie was released, or something like that. I was so mad. Plus it just sucked.

Falling in Love with English Boys-Melissa Jensen.
This should've been good, with England for a setting. But no.

Naive.Super-Erlend Loe.
This book was just awful. Just awful.

A Visit from the Goon Squad-Jennifer Egan.
I couldn't hate this book more! URGH!

4. Funniest
Going Too Far-Jennifer Elchols

I found this to be the funniest. I don't usually laugh out loud when I read but this got a few smirks out of me.
Also, parts from The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein had some very funny parts.

5. Favorite cover (published in Jan-June 2011)
Divergent-Veronica Roth

I think it's a really visually interesting cover. It goes perfectly with the story.

Between Shades of Gray-Ruta Sepetys
Simple.

6. Favorite character
I think that goes to the two main characters in
You Against Me-Jenny Downham
Mikey and Ellie. I really wanted the best for both of them.

7. New-to-you series
The Jessica darling series!
I've read all five this year and loved them.

8. Most beautifully written
But I Love Him-Amanda Grace

Just heartbreaking and beautiful.

The End of Everything-Megan Abbot

Some books stun you with how well written they are. This was one of those books for me. So haunting and unforgettable. Reminded me of The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides.

9. Most thought-provoking OR book that grew on you
One Day-David Nicholls

This book definitely grew on me. At first I thought "eh" but before I knew it, I was completely caught up in this simple story about love and friendship.

Mysterious Skin-Scott Heim
This was the most thought-provoking. It was stunning to read about these two boys who dealt with abuse differently. Such a sad, powerful book.

10. Book you want to see made into a movie
Honestly, I think the books would get ruined if they tried to make them into movies. But I wouldn't mind seeing them try to make
Forbidden-Tabitha Suzuma
into a movie. That would be a difficult movie to make.

Random Acts of Kindness

Book Soulmates

Hey everyone,
this month I'm participating in RAK, aka "Random Acts of Kindness". It sounds like a fun idea. There are always books that I have lying around that are on peoples wishlist's.

So I thought I'd try it out! If anyone is interested, you can click the picture/button to read more about it/sign up.

Review: Saving June-Hannah Harrington

Harper Scott, trying to come to terms with her perfect older sister June's suicide, takes a road trip and finds love with a mysterious boy who had a connection to June-- and may know more about her sister's life and death than he's telling.

I'm giving this 4 1/2 stars.

I love books like this. Well, not like this as there are not many(maybe any) books exactly like this. But I love YA books that deal with the following things:
Road trips/Travelling
Music/Mix Tape lists
Suicide
Discovery
Falling in love

And this book has ALL of these things.

I loved Harper. I related to Harper in the way that I used to be a lot like her. I've always been the sarcastic type who tries not to let her feelings show. So I loved the things she'd say("This doesn't mean I want to have your babies")

I can't say I loved Jake but I thought his character was great. I kind of get annoyed by music know-it-alls, to be honest, so that was my reason for not loving him. But he almost made me get over that annoyance.

The basic plot is that Harper's sister June commits suicide. And a series of events leads her to bringing her ashes to California with her best friend Laney and a guy she met at her sister's funeral, Jake.

I really recommend it. I couldn't stop reading it. I loved so much about the book. It was so well written.

"You cannot be in love with someone you've really only known for barely a week and on top of that someone who drives you crazy most of the time. No matter how goodlooking and charming and interesting and understanding he may be. Not even if he's the one person who makes you feel like yourself.
Right?"

What I read in...

AUGUST!

In August, I quit a job I hated and am now unemployed again! Back to job hunting it is. But even though I was working full time the first three weeks of August, I managed to read 15 books(one of those was a 26 page children's book). Here's the list:

Sea Change-Kate Cann
Ordinary Beauty-Laura Wiess
The Bad Beginning-Lemony Snicket
The Reptile Room-Lemony Snicket
One Day-David Nicholls
Bitter End-Jennifer Brown
Loose Girl-Kerry Cohen
But I Love Him-Amanda Grace
Want To Go Private?-Sarah Darer Littman
Love Letters-Anne Cassidy
Liesl & Po-Lauren Oliver
Saving Francesca-Melina Marchetta
Ditched-Robin Mellom
Honestly, Red Riding Hood Was Rotten!-Trisha Speed Shaskan
Outlander-Diana Gabaldon

My absolute favorite reads of the month were:
But I Love Him
One Day

But Bitter End, Ordinary Beauty, Saving Francesca, Ditched, Liesl & Po and Do You Want To Go Private? were all pretty entertaining books. 3-4 star books

The worst reads of the month were:
Sea Change
Love Letters
with
Outlander being one of the most ridiculous books I've ever read!

So in conclusion, I read 8 YA books, 4 "children"'s books, 2 "adult" books and 1 memoir.
Now onto a new month, September. I have my mom and sister coming to visit me in two weeks for 10 days so I probably will get no reading done then. We will be visiting Paris and London, as well as Longleat. It's going to be so amazing, I think. I love London and have never been to Paris. And I haven't seen my mom or sister since I left Canada back on April 1st.

This month, I'm hoping to get through a lot of the books I've had lying around for a while. I've had two Katie Fforde books for four months or so and I don't know why I bought them because I have no desire to read them!(okay, they were cheap charity shop buys) I also have "The Pillars of the earth" by Ken Follet and would rather stab myself in the eyes than read it anytime soon.

BUT there are some books I've bought that look like a fun read maybe like "Meet me at the cupcake cafe" by Jenny Cooligan and "Safe Haven" by Nicholas Sparks(who usually disappoints me, actually).

I'm thinking this month should be the month I kind of take stock of what I have and try to downsize on it. Maybe give some of the books I don't want to read a chance and if they don't interest me within a few chapters, donate them to a charity shop. I want to downsize so I won't feel so guilty when I keep buying new books.

Speaking of which, I pre-ordered "Lola and the french kiss" last month and it comes out September 29th, apparently! So I have that to look forward to. I think it will be impossible for me not to order at leastttt one or two new books this month. There are SO many on my wish list.

What did you read this month? What are you looking forward to?
